This delightful mosaic tile project was made possible by a commission from a client in New Zealand who gifted it to friends in New Mexico. The mosaic design of the amazing kiwi birds surrounded by purple grapes represents the people of New Zealand (kiwis) and the family's vineyards and winery. The kiwis are made of glazed porcelain and copper metallic tiles and the background colors of teal, forest greens and emerald accent the purples, lavenders and blues of the grapes. The birdbath is made entirely of cast aluminum and was sanded and sealed with thinset prior to setting the mosaics. It was grouted and sealed with an epoxy based bar sealant for total protection from the elements. The scalloped edges are finished with bull nose porcelain tiles for a smooth finished transition to the underside of the metal.
