New Mexico, Land of Enchantment
and the home of New Mexico Mosaics. The colors of the New Mexico state flag were brought to the region by Spanish explorers in 1540. This ancient sun symbol of the Zia Indians represents the giver of all good things in groups of fours. The four arms, having four rays each, represent; 1) directions - north, east, west and south, 2) seasons - spring, summer, autumn and winter, 3) times of day - sunrise, noon, evening and night and 4) life itself - childhood, youth, middle years and old age. The four arms are bound by a circle representing life and love without beginning or end. ******************************
New Mexico is the 47th state, admitted to the Union on January 6, 1912. New Mexico is bordered by Arizona, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, and by the country of Mexico. The population is around 1.8 million, it is the 5th largest state and has an area of 121,593 gorgeous square miles. The state motto is 'Crescit eundo' or- 'It grows as it goes'. Most people here more commonly use simply 'manana' for tomorrow, as in the land of manana. © 2003, New Mexico Mosaics. All rights reserved. Last Updated: 01/05/2007 01:37 PM
