All mosaic mirrors are professionally finished and ready to hang. Where appropriate, they are equipped with two separate wire hangers so that they can be hung either horizontally or vertically. The wire hangers are mounted to the frames with clasps capable of supporting one hundred pounds. Due to their weight, these mosaic mirrors require two wall mounts. The required mounting is to install two lag bolts 16 inches apart directly into the wall's studs. If that is not possible due to stud location, the span may be increased to 20 inches (only for horizontal hanging, do NOT increase for vertical hanging). If the mirror is to be hung on a masonry wall it is recommended that two mounts be fastened securely into the brick (NOT the joint) with anchors on 16 inch centers. Anchor shields must be at least 2 to 3 inches in length for bolts at least 1/4 inch diameter. Some mosaic tables have 'floating tops', which means that the table top is not secured to the base through use of screws or other fasteners. This type of construction is essential for the reduction of stresses to the mosaic top. Care should be taken so that anyone moving the table realizes that the top comes free from the base. There are two basic types of floating mosaic table tops - nested or skirted. A nested table top is one that fits into a pre-cut section of the base, similar to glass tops. A skirted table top has long sides that overhang the outside of the table base. Depending on the overall size of the piece, a floating mosaic table top rests on soft guards of either plastic bumper pads or layers of felt. The mosaic tops will not come off the base unless the table is either picked up or overturned. Nested tops rest on felt and skirted table tops rest on either felt for small tops, or heavier plastic bumper pads for larger tops. Felt is also placed on several areas of the base to avoid damage due to minor impacts of the skirts from the side. © 2003, New Mexico Mosaics. All rights reserved. Last Updated: 01/05/2007 01:37 PM
